The Giver
I have a fun 'teaching' story to share. Yesterday I had a student who was a bit down because it was art time and she was missing several colors of markers. She asked to use mine and I told her which drawer she could find them in and told her she was welcome to use them. She worked happily on art. When she came to my desk to return my markers, she told me, "You were missing two colors, so I put my two of those colors in your box. Now you have a complete set." It touched me to see her giving heart. Though she had been sad to be missing colors, she was willing to give up even more colors to make sure that I would have a complete set.
Time and time again, this student encourages me with her giving spirit and her tender heart. She is always using reward tickets to buy presents for her family or her friends. This last reward day (when they have a chance to spend their 'tickets' on little prizes), she bought a toothbrush out of the prize box. I asked her if she perhaps was needing a new toothbrush or if she liked the color or something. She said "no, (classmates' name) has been wanting it and I finally had enough tickets to buy it for her. "
She has taught me to look at what I have to give. She gives genuinely putting the other person first. She doesn't give of her leftovers, she gives first, before she thinks about what she might want. Thanks for being an encouragement and a teacher to me!
